Lingyi’s Purdue Grad Session

Celebrating a PhD with a Photo Session

I remember when my husband Dan got his PhD at Purdue – it was a BIG deal! So much hard work and so many hoops to jump through! Our kids were little at the time and he was starting a new business, so we really had to rally. In the end, of course, it was worth it.

So when Lingyi asked me to photograph him in celebration of his PhD in Physics from Purdue, I was honored. I know how much it takes!

Like I do for all my clients, we met virtually before his session to plan. We designed Lingyi’s session together, making sure that we hit iconic spots around campus and also a few with him in front of his Physics building. He also had images he wanted to mimic from 70 years ago at Purdue that had historical meaning for his family, so we put those in the design, as well.

Lingyi had a beautiful day for a shoot this past weekend, despite it being a little steamy (especially in that gown and hood!). He posed at the iconic Purdue spots, but we also found some places spontaneously. Lingyi added new ideas as we explored campus, which always adds uniqueness to a session. I love learning from my clients and seeing where their vision can take us.

Because of travel restrictions, Lingyi’s family was not able to attend his graduation, but now he will have an album of images to give them. They will get a window into his campus life and be able to celebrate his special accomplishment, which is so important!

Congratulations, Lingyi! I wish you the very best.
